![]() ![]() The same goes for entering the portal on the Nether side: each respective Overworld portal is chosen based on its relative Y-height. ![]() You can guess what happens with the high Overworld portal and the high Nether portal (hint: they're linked). When we go in the middle Overworld portal, we come out the middle Overworld portal. OK, so what happens when we have all three Overworld and Nether-side portals active? I'll tell you: when we go in the low Overworld portal, we come out the low Nether portal. Repeating the previous process of breaking the portal, dying, and re-entering a new portal in the Nether was created to match our third Overworld portal - this time at Y=72. In keeping with discovery #1, again I was teleported to the recently created low portal at Y=8. The third Oveworld portal was created on a tall pillar of dirt at Y=128 in the Overworld. ![]() So I broke the first portal on the Nether side, died, then traveled back through the lowest portal and this time a new portal was created at Y=8. This is discovery #1: pick an existing portal in the target dimension over creating a new one. The second Overworld portal, which I placed near the bottom of the Overworld at Y=5 actually linked to the original Nether portal created when I traveled through first Overworld portal. The first Overworld portal was created with a minimum Y height of 64 and the resulting portal created in the Nether was at Y=55. So I have 63 layers down to the Void and 192 layers up to the build limit to experiment with. I used my superflat test world with a base height of Y=63. It's important to note that a previously established portal (in either dimension) will be chosen over creating a new portal and this is what I've documented in this album. We already know there are selection limits with regard to the X/Z coordinates (the horizontal plane), but how are they created/linked vertically? This album documents my discoveries. So I started experimenting with Nether portal creation and how they're linked. So here's the story: I'm working on a build for a Realms world where I have really tall towers sitting in really deep pits ( like this only the holes are much bigger now). To link a Nether portal above bedrock in the Nether, at least one portal block within the frame must be at Y=127. No portal will be created above the worldgen height for that dimension (note: worldgen height != build limit) If there are multiple portals in the destination dimension search area, the one that is nearest to the targeted destination coordinates will be chosen. Newly created portals have a Y-coordinate relative to the entry portal. Imgur apparently changed their hashing or recycled one this is no longer my image.Ī previously established portal will be chosen over creating a new one within the same X/Z search area. ![]()
